Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question about anything related to Treasures Untold? Most likely, you will find the answer below. If not, please reach out to us via our Get In Touch page.

What kind of paint do you sell?

We sell premium, Australian-made chalk paint by Blake & Taylor. This is a water-based, low-VOC formula specifically designed for upcycling furniture, offering excellent adhesion with minimal prep.

It is the same paint we trust in our studio for its beautiful, lasting finish and "no-fuss" application on almost any surface.

How much paint do I need?

The amount of paint required depends on the size of your piece and the desired coverage. As a general guide:

  • 150ml Pot (The "Petite Project"): Ideal for smaller accents and decor. This size is perfect for items like ornate picture frames, lamp bases, terracotta pots, a small stool, or a single bedside table.
  • 500ml Tin (The "Weekend Transformation"): The best choice for reviving standalone furniture. This provides enough paint for a small bookcase, a student desk, a chest of drawers, a dressing table, or a pair of bedside tables.

Do I need to sand before painting?

In most cases, light cleaning and a quick scuff-sand for glossy or damaged areas are sufficient. Our paints are designed to adhere well to most surfaces without heavy prep; however this depends on the quality of the furniture being upcycled.

Please refer to our product descriptions for more information.

How long does shipping take for small items?

We aim to have your order ready and out the door within 2–3 business days. All parcels are sent via Australia Post, so final delivery times will vary depending on your location.

A few things to note:

  • Domestic Shipping: We currently ship within Australia only.
  • Calculated Rates: Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the total weight of your products.
  • Tracking: Keep an eye on your inbox! You will receive a tracking number as soon as your order is on its way so you can follow its journey.

How does the commission process work?

It starts with an enquiry via our form, where you describe your vision (e.g., style, colour, piece type). We provide a quote, sign a contract, and require a 50% deposit to secure the project and sourcing. The final piece is completed, and the balance is paid before collection of your furniture.

Can I supply my own furniture piece?

Yes, you can supply your own piece (Customer Owned Piece - COP) or we can source one for you. If supplying your own, we will need photos and dimensions to assess its suitability for the project. Please note we work only with solid timber.

How long does a commission take?

The timeline varies significantly based on the complexity, piece sourcing, and our current schedule. Projects typically take 4 to 8 weeks from the date the deposit is paid, but this will be detailed in your specific agreement.

Do you offer delivery for commissioned furniture?

No. We do not ship furniture. All commissioned pieces must be either collected by the customer from our studio or have third-party transport arranged and paid for by the customer.

What types of workshops do you offer?

We offer various hands-on workshops covering furniture painting and decoupage.

See our Workshops page for the current schedule.

What is included in the workshop price?

The price covers the materials needed (paint, brushes, tools), light refreshments, and use of the necessary equipment during the session.

If you attend an upcycling workshop, we will ask you to bring a small piece of furniture with you.

What is your cancellation policy for workshops?

We understand that plans can change, so we aim to be as flexible as possible. If you need to cancel or reschedule 7 days or more before your workshop, we offer a full refund or a move to a new date.

For cancellations made less than 7 days prior, a 50% cancellation fee applies, though you are more than welcome to transfer your spot to a friend.

Please note that we are unable to provide refunds for cancellations made within 24 hours or for no-shows on the day.
